COPENHAGEN, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- Odsherred Municipality, some 90 km northwest of Danish capital city of Copenhagen, announced on Monday the start of a trial scheme of four-day working week.
Under the scheme, 300 employees of the municipality will be off every Friday.
In addition, employees will receive two so-called competency lessons per week to read professional literature or to be allowed to go out and work with the environment, said HR Manager in Odsherred Municipality Kirsten Lund Markvardsen.
However, citizens will be able to contact municipality services outside of regular business hours on weekdays, the official said.
The four-day working week will be 35 hours. The working hours are individual, but the individual employee will typically have one long day a week, which will be between 7:00 a.m. and 19:00 p.m.
The trial scheme will affect a local population of 33,000 because of the change of the working time of municipality employees.
